Hours

When to Travel?

o November-March (for the true value-seeker; colder temperatures; fairway mats in use but no temporary greens; access to the Old Course is virtually guaranteed every single day but some nearby courses may be closed)

o April (best value in peak season; no course restrictions; gorse in full bloom; colder than summer but still generally quite pleasant)

o May (some deals to be had, but not as many)

o June (beginning of high season; golf can be played 6am-10:30pm; beware of St. Andrews University graduation at the end of the month)

o July (warm but very busy, especially if the Open is in Scotland)

o August (warmest month; several course closures due to R&A priority times; success in both the application and ballot much lower than the rest of the year)

o September (Old Course closed for most of the month; some ballot tee times available in the first week)

o October (weather begins to cool off; some deals to be had, especially in the second half of the month, but less daylight than in April when prices are similar)

Where to Stay?

o B&Bs (best value when staying in St. Andrews; centrally-located to pubs and golf; room sizes larger than 3-star hotels; high level of personal attention)

o 3-star hotels (for groups looking for budget accommodations who want a pub/restaurant in the building of the hotel or who require more than 4 rooms)

o 4-star hotels (larger rooms than 3-star and more upscale dining options; amenities such as elevators and 24-hour concierge, some may have pools/spas)

o 5-star hotels (the best of the best; opulent hotels with attentive staff, world-class spas, and award-winning restaurants)
